I love this saying because it’s true and when it comes to dieting, food is always in the forefront of your mind which is why the more flexibility there is in your food choices, the likelihood of seeing your fitness/weight loss goals to fruition increases exponentially.
For example I’m not a believer in the restriction of carbs…at all. There are times I might apply these techniques in special cases but when it comes to simple fat loss (simple as in “not getting up on stage” or “making a specified weight for a sport”), CONTROLLED CALORIE INTAKE WITH A VARIETY OF FOOD CHOICES COUPLED WITH CONSISTENT TRAINING/WORKOUTS IS MY FAVOURED METHOD OF STRATEGIZING A DIET (I wish I could hashtag all of that).
The more and more I hear about how miserable someone is because they’ve eliminated something like carbohydrates from their diet for extended periods of time makes me miserable just hearing it. I’ve spoken to so many women that do NOT compete or engage in competitive sports following these protocols just to lose a few pounds. The more restriction you put on yourself with regards to food, the more the thought of food will consume your mind and, in most cases, resulting in a profound rebound in weight gain.
It’s pretty insane to “suffer” through dieting only to gain the weight back. What the heck and what’s the point???
So in conclusion – the more miserable the diet, the less likely you’re going to keep the weight off and the more likely you’re going to repeat the process over and over (and over) again (a la “Yo-Yo Dieting”).
I just had a few brownies for my post workout. And I’m smiling.
