Let’s not fool ourselves, everyone wants a strong fierce body, for fourteen years I was a competitive swimmer, my body and mind were all focused on endurance, strength and power and of course the “Win”. And there is no doubt that a strong core body transforms how you look and how you feel about yourself. I never imagined that I could bring that type of mindset to yoga, but I was wrong, my “Power Teaching” is all about building core strength,upper body strength, and mind strength. We need the core muscles to be strong, the transverse abdominal, the internal obliques, the external obliques, rectus abdominis, and Transversus Abdominis. They are critical to our back health, to our posture and to lifting our heart and walking with confidence.
As we age, we can use the core to stay young, to look younger than we are, keep the weight monster at bay, reduce injury and build strength rather than loose strength. I always add new elements to the power core but most importantly I never let people off the hook!
