Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
0Some take advantage of the new year to set resolutions. I use the new year to re- assess my long term and short term goals and set new ones. This year, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and enroll in gymnastics.
I did this for many reasons, mainly to improve my flexibility and mobility, two areas that I have neglected over the years. I can squat more then ever before, but don’t ask me to touch my toes. Huge problem, I know!
Although I have just started gymnastics, I am gaining so much more out of it then I ever expected! At my first lesson, I realised that I am not nearly as brave as I used to be. I was scared to jump on the high beam and dismount with a cartwheel. Once upon a time, I would have done this without hesitation.
Had I not stepped out of my comfort zone and enrolled in gymnastics, I would not have realized that adulthood has turned me into a big chicken, but more importantly I would not have been afforded the to opportunity to fix it.
I have conquered my fear of the high beam and wonder what other challenges or fears I will be confronted with at gymnastics! I can’t wait to kick them in the butt!
To make a long story short, step out of your comfort zone, try something different and like me, you will likely gain more out of it then you ever expected!
Here’s to the new year, to trying something different and re-connecting with our inner child!
