Small Town Hockey
0Small town hockey. Across Canada you will find it everywhere.
In the city of Summerside, PEI it’s no different. Hundreds of children take to the ice every year of all ages, sizes and skill levels to play the beloved Canadian made game.
In the Gallant family, the three brothers Brad, Brett & Alex grew up spending their days at the rink and it shows. All three are extremely talented and have played at high levels of hockey, but only one has had his blades hit the ice in the big show……the NHL.
Brett Gallant this past season finally saw all his hard work pay off when he got the opportunity to play the last few games of the season for the NY Islanders and boy did he ever leave his mark! You see, as skilled a hockey player he is, what sets him apart is his unbelievable toughness. Brett isn’t small, but he isn’t a large man either. Standing under 6′ and weighing under 200lbs may bait fellow barbarians of the ice into a confrontation with him, but that false sense of security is their first mistake. With hands like granite and a cast iron jaw to match, Brett is the guy no one wants to fight.
Trained for years as a youth by Canadian boxing legend Joe Borden, Brett knows quite well just how to throw his hands…..but it’s his lack of fear that makes him tenacious…..he simply has none. I will be in charge this summer of sending him back to camp bigger, stronger & faster. To me this is a great honor because I know how proud of him the city of Summerside is. I have no doubt that next season will see him once again in the big show. He is a hard worker and dedicated to making himself better. But enough about next season…….right now there is work to be done and I can’t wait.
