The Natural
0He strolls into the gym every morning the same way. Super relaxed, head tilted slightly back with a slight grin. “Morning boys”, he gives the same greeting everyday. There is a definite swagger in his step, if you didn’t know him you might call it cocky but it’s simply the confident walk of a pure athlete.
This is my second summer working with pro hockey player Daryl Boyce, and to put it quite simply he is one of the best and most natural athletes I have ever worked with. Daryl has had a very successful career in professional hockey that has included stints in the NHL playing with the Toronto Maple Leaf’s and the Columbus blue jackets.
This year he will be playing in Finland for JyP. I have never had the pleasure of seeing him play live, but see his hard work in the gym daily as he attacks each workout. Daryl is a natural, he adapts to each new exercise he is given almost immediately with a chameleon like ability to pick up and adapted very quickly. It almost comes too easy for him, but he doesn’t let that fact interfere with his strong work ethic. Talented or not, he works hard. There is no doubt in my mind that he belongs in the NHL, but don’t feel sorry for him. He is making a living doing what he loves. I wish I had the opportunity to see him play, but for now I will just have to follow via the net and be thankful that I have had the opportunity to work with him.
