One of the biggest hidden enemies to fat loss in our diets is starch, which is anything that converts quickly to sugar in the blood. Sugar is a starch, and so are grains, potatoes, fruits, and beans. We all know that sugar isn’t our weight loss friend, but starches sneak into the diet all over the place. That “healthy” whole grain pasta? Starch. That multi-grain sprouted bread? Starch. Fruit bowl with breakfast? Starch starch starch.
We’ll save the explanation of what all this starch is doing in your blood stream for a future post, but let’s start with a simple and delicious way to replace one of the most common sources of starch in our diets: pasta.
In this video, we show you how to substitute natures natural ‘spaghetti’ – spaghetti squash – for the processed, grain-based variety. This is a wonderful and easy substitute if you’re looking to minimize starchy carbs in your diet, if you’re sensitive to gluten and/or grains generally, or if you’re just looking for creative ways to add more veggies to your diet.
