I realize this Anti-Age theme is to look at ways to stay young, healthy and vibrant, but you know what, being older is not all that bad either.
I witnessed that the other day when a courteous young man offered me his seat on the subway which was teaming with people, and I gratefully took him up on his offer, thinking to myself – “see, there are some merits to not colouring your hair anymore – apart from saving money. ”
In fact there are all sorts of seniors’ discounts that you can take advantage of – some I never even knew – like staying at a Holiday Inn where they have a seniors’ discount. Or the amazing 20 % discount on the fourth Thursday of the month at Shoppers Drugmart. Now for that one, you just have to be 55. I so love it when I get questioned, almost have to show my birth certificate to prove I am eligible. Quite boosts my day.
But it isn’t just that, by the time you reach a certain age or become a “wise crone” as my friends would say, you hopefully have learned what to worry about and what to let go, because what we fret about when we are younger, is just not that important in the scheme of things.
I also find I am a lot more outspoken. My tolerance is low for people who try to take advantage or behave in a way that seems contrary to my values, and whereas at one time I would hide my feelings, people can usually tell when they’ve teed me off. Not a bad thing as then we all know where we stand and no time is wasted pussy-footing around.
Yup, being older, sometimes wiser has its benefits, but I wouldn’t try to speed things up to get here, because on the downside, you start to need new body parts.
