A great summer to reflect upon
06am is no longer bright, the sometimes overcast skies and cool crisp breeze signals that summer is over. For me it means that my incredible summer of training Maple Leaf captain, Dion Phaneuf, is now complete. My first morning heading into to the gym to train myself felt very different, almost melancholy. Traveling out to Phaneuf’s private gym every morning over the last three months always carried a bit of excitement and anticipation, never a dull moment. That is now gone.
I truly enjoyed physically exerting myself and testing my limits along side the thoroughbred athlete. It was exciting to watch the transformation of the dedicated captain as he vigorously attacked each task I presented him with. A true privilege to train such an elite athlete. As much as I am sad those mornings are complete, I am equally excited to see the big man’s blades hit the ice. Almost like a proud parent, I eagerly await the start of the season. His dedication to his fitness will most certainly show on the ice……….and on the twisted faces of his opponents who dare to cross the blue line with their heads down.
I would wish my friend good luck, but he doesn’t need it. When you have prepared like he has for this upcoming season, refining, honing and sharpening his vessel, luck has little to do with it. So to my friend my training partner and my client I will simply say have a great season, you have already made me proud. #proudtrainer #DP3 #goleafs
