5 Skin Healthy Foods

When it comes to our bodies, we know exactly what we need to steer clear from to maintain a fit and healthy silhouette. Now, did you ever think of getting enough “skin-healthy foods” in? Well, here is a list of 5 superstar foods, of which our skin loves and works well with. And yes, some are even fats!

Yogurt – Your wrinkle fighting warrior Enriched with protein, this skin-healthy super food is an excellent choice in maintaining youth in your complexion. Greek yogurt, being especially beneficial by having higher levels of protein, work towards re-densifying the structure of your skin, making it more firm and resistant to deeper wrinkles. Keratin, which is the substance that makes up our skin, our hair and our nails, is made up of protein, so including yogurt high in protein into your diet will keep your complexion smooth and radiant.

Berries – A tough exterior, with a hint of blush From the acai berry to strawberries, blue, black and even raspberries– all berries contain very powerful plant nutrients called flavonoids that have been shown to have anti-cancer and anti-aging effects. Furthermore, these juicy delicious fruits are packed with antioxidants, which fight free radicals caused by external aggressors and regulate skin’s blood flow, giving it a beautiful pink glow.

Raw Nuts – Radiance Revealers Nuts contain essential fatty acids, which can improve skin’s elasticity and over-all health. Nuts are also loaded with copper, a mineral that boosts collagen production. Snack on a handful of raw nuts each day to improve your complexion’s texture and tone. In general, 10-15 raw (unsalted) nuts each day will provide you with the health benefits without going overboard on fat and calories.

Leafy Greens – To the rescue! There are countless reasons to dive into your greens, and not just to keep a fit and healthy bod. First off, they offer an abundant amount of phytochemicals – plant chemicals that protect against a variety of disease processes. Greens like spinach and kale are considered healthy-skin super foods that are loaded with fiber, calcium and vitamin E. Calcium is excellent for a dry or sensitive skin due to its soothing benefits, while vitamin E is exceptional at keeping the skin’s moisture barrier intact, and being a very potent antioxidant, it will strengthen the skin’s natural defense mechanisms.

Beans – Skin irritations don’t stand a chance

They’re high in zinc, which is very healing. Zinc is an ingredient found in diaper rash cream to repair the skin of even the tiniest, most sensitive little ones. Consuming foods high in zinc will help your skin repair itself from conditions like acne, which has been linked to zinc deficiencies. Applied topically, products containing zinc may drop the need for antibiotics, as some face and body lotions with zinc may kill blemish-causing bacteria, heal red or inflamed skin and keep it in control.
