3 Techniques to Boost Self- Love
0Self-Love seems to be the newest trend term popping up all over the media lately. Some think of it as a new age/hippy concept with no real relevance but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In my wellness practice, I’m approached everyday by people who want to lose weight, tone up, eat more nutritious foods, have more energy, stronger relationships, etc.
But why? What’s at the root of these goals? What do they hope will happen after accomplishing these goals? The answer is LOVE and HAPPINESS.
Studying holistic medicine for the last decade I’ve learned to treat the cause of the “dis-ease” and not the symptoms (this is the difference between holistic and western medicine). There is always a deeper root to the ”dis-ease” then what meets the eye. This generally stems from an emotional cause which when left untreated manifested in a physical ailment. I’ve decided to take the same approach to lifestyle coaching. Instead of beginning with a fitness and nutrition program, I begin with a self -love program. I’ve found when people are happier and in love with themselves then they automatically want to do activities and eat foods that love them back. With a strong foundation of self-love lifestyle changes are no longer challenging, they become effortless.
What does it really mean to have self -love? How do you know if you have it? And if you don’t, how do you get some?
-Self-Love knows that YOU ARE ENOUGH. You are deserving of attaining all your dreams.
-Self-Love knows what makes you happy and going after it.
-Self-Love is letting go of things that are no longer serving you, including people.
-It knows your own beauty, inside and out.
-It’s about forgiving yourself for past mistakes and embracing the lessons you learned along the way.
-Self-Love is being authentic. There is only one you!
-It’s about allowing you to be human. Sometimes we mess up, sometimes we need a break, and sometimes we fail but we fail with grace.
-You take risks.
-You feel your emotions not repress them.
-Self-Love is to Dream Big!
There are several tools to boost self-love. My 3 favorite are BELIEFS, GRATITUDE and PASSION.
What do you believe about you?
Are you worthy? Enough? Loveable? Beautiful? Talented? Valued?
Everything is made up of energy- our beliefs control our thoughts which are energy that will later turn into actions. Belief systems are passed down in families and cultures, and we are not always aware they exist. They tell us what is right and wrong, how to act, how to evaluate the world around us and how to view ourselves in relationship to others and to the world.
Remember, A belief is not a truth, it’s just a belief.
The first step is to identity them, because until we identify them we cannot change them, and unless we change them, it’s impossible to move forward.
So how do you become aware of your beliefs? Meditation, Yoga and cleansing help, because with the clutter gone we have more clarity and insight. Eat foods that resemble nature because the closer you get to nature the more you can understand you own nature.
When we are GRATEFUL, there is no space to be miserable.
When working with people who have low esteem and body image gratitude gives a new perspective. Or example, instead of having legs that “don’t look good in shorts” or “jiggle when you walk” ,you have legs that are so strong they carry you throughout the day, allowing you to be mobile, to be free.
Choose to see gratitude in every little daily routine and the good things around you. Gratitude leads to sharing- when we are grateful we are more likely to be generous to everyone around us and sharing leads to happiness.
PASSION is your divine guidance to finding your purpose. The happiest people are those who find their purpose and live it every day.
What do you love to do?
It’s really as simple as that. Don’t worry about the How’s. Trust in God to deal with that. When you have clarity and purpose, the Universe will deliver the opportunities.
Your purpose will evolve around some avenue of service to others; it’s always bigger than just yourself. Helping others transcends our own negative reactive behaviour.
Self-Love is the most important thing you can ever have. When you have self-love, everything else just falls into place!
